The Rainbow

by Laivy Hart

Noach stepped out into a world washed away. Everything he had known was gone, and the task of rebuilding lay before him. Generations later, our grandparents faced a devastation of their own. They, too, had to begin again. Noach's story is the beginning of a timeless message: even after the greatest destruction, life must be rebuilt, and the future must be filled with hope.

He heard the warnings, watched them pass
He thought the world would always last
He built the Tayva, but could not know
How far the rising flood would go

The waters climbed, the daylight died
The world he knew was swept aside
A year of darkness, wood and rain
Then silence fell across the plain

He opens the door. The earth lies bare
No voices call from anywhere
No roads lead home, no smoke ascends
No familiar faces, no old friends

He cannot bring the lost ones back
Or find the world erased in black
He stands beneath an empty sky
And sees the truth he once denied

Step into the world below
Face what only you can know

A promise shining through the rain
That life will rise and bloom again
Though all he knew has passed away
There will be life beyond this day

The sky above, the earth below
A future waits for life to grow

He builds an altar on the ground
In the silence, no other sound
Then comes the charge to fill the earth
To give new generations birth

Let children rise, let fields be sown
Build a future of their own

A promise shining through the rain
That life will rise and bloom again
Though all he knew has passed away
There will be life beyond this day

The sky above, the earth below
A future waits for life to grow

They crossed the ocean, left behind
The world they'd known, the lives they'd find
They came with grief no words could hold
And hearts made weary, brave, and old

They raised the shuls, they filled the schools
They taught their children Torah's truths
We grew inside the world they made
A living future from the price they paid

The past remains. The promise stands.
The future waits within our hands.

A promise shining through the rain
That life will rise and bloom again
Though all he knew has passed away
There will be life beyond this day

The sky above, the earth below
A future waits for life to grow
