This song is dedicated to every person who has ever wondered whether they matter.
To the people whose names are known, and to those whose names are never mentioned.
Every person has a place. Every person has a purpose. And when we stand before ה׳, no one stands alone.
This is “כולכם.”
Who gets to stand when the בְּרִית is spoken? Who gets a place when the doors are opened? Is it the ones whose names we know? The ones who lead, the ones who show?
The heads of שְׁבָטִים, the elders first The ones we look to when things get worse The people with the wisdom and the plan The ones who carry the weight of the land
But then the תּוֹרָה keeps going down Past every title, past every crown And suddenly I hear something strange The list gets longer, but the message won't change
From the highest seat To the lowest place Nobody disappears Nobody gets erased
Then come the children The wives, the גֵּר The one who chops the wood The one who shleps the water
Not the people you put on a stage Not the people who make the front page Not the ones who get the credit or fame But they're standing there just the same
Because a nation isn't built from one It isn't finished when the leaders are done Every hand has a part to play Every person carries the world in their way
You don't have to be the head To hold your head up high You don't have to lead the people To have a reason why
Maybe we confuse importance with position Maybe we measure people by their title and ambition But the תּוֹרָה gives us something better A different way to measure every member
The leader needs the worker The worker needs the leader The scholar needs the builder The builder needs the teacher
The one who brings the vision Needs someone who can make it real And the one who carries water May be carrying what the whole camp needs
One is a hand One is a foot One is a heart One is a brain
Different parts Different purpose Different gifts Different strength
The hand can't do the work of the foot The foot can't do the work of the hand The heart can't do the work of the brain And the brain can't do it all
None is the other None can replace the other
But the בְּרִית brings them together
Not one hand Not one foot Not one heart Not one brain
